Strategies For Internet Poker Playing
Poker is a family of card games that is really gaining a huge following, lately. A big part of that is due to all of the television publicity that the game has been getting, as well as to
the fact that more and more people are playing games on the Internet. Internet play is quick and convenient. So, people can play whenever and wherever they want.
There are some very simple ways to make the most of your Internet poker playing. Unfortunately, many people don't know or fully
understand those methods. Or, sometimes, they just plain ignore those methods. It's very important to have and stick to a strategy, though. Here are some strategic
suggestions.
Watch Your Image:
Projecting an image at the poker tables is the first important step, even when playing Internet poker. Image when playing Internet poker isn't about how you look. It's all in how you
act. The key is to consistently project an image that you can use to your advantage at strategic times.
A loose image at the poker tables means that everyone knows that you could have any two cards, more or less. If they know that you'll call or raise with junk, sometimes, some of the tight
players might be more willing to call you with lesser cards of their own. That could lead to a victory for you, when you actually have decent cards.
Of course, there are also tight players to consider. Tight players are very conservative and only play certain high hands, usually. So, if you have that sort of reputation, use
it. If you have a fairly decent hand, bet it to steal blinds. Many people will fold to you and, even if some don't, your hand may have them beat.

A Common Poker Mistake
Any player wishing to improve his poker skills should first start with an honest self-assessment of his playing ability. This should include identification of those parts of his game that are deficient and need to be improved. In addition, a player should honestly answer why he wants to improve his game. Is it because he wants to win more money? Or does he simply want to become a better player? Following this assessment process, a list of goals should be made and defining a plan to improve the player's skills. Depending on a player's experience level and knowledge of the game, this list of goals and plans may vary widely.

Getting Schooled: Why Fish Stick Together
When a poker player says his opponents are "schooling", it means a lot of loose and passive players are playing at the same table. These players, who don't fold enough weak hands or bet
enough powerful hands are called "fish" and a group of fish is a school. These weak and passive players are often the worst players out there, with the least chance to make money in the
long run.
One fish at a table is going to lose a lot of cash quickly, but when there are more fish at the table, it hurts each one less to play loose. Let's say there's a small pot on the turn in a
game of Holdem. The player with the best hand makes a bet. Any player trying to make a gut shot draw would be making a very bad mistake to call. However, if several players all
looking for gut shots make the call, the odds tilt more in their favor. The reason for this is implied odds, which basically means that more players are expected to call than those that
already have. Since it costs the same to call regardless of how many players choose to call, the pot odds slant in your favor with each successive fish.
Lets look at an example:
You're playing $10/$20 Texas poker and are in the big blind with an A9 off suit. You check after six players
limp in, your school of fish. The flop comes A,10,5. You decide to bet and since we've established your opponents are fish, let's assume they all call.
When the turn comes up another ace, you decide to bet once more. You made a $20 bet on the turn and the pot now stands at $140. Let's say all your opponents are on gut shots, and hold
hands of KQ, KJ, QJ, 43, 42, and 32. There are 34 cards left in the deck and only 2 make a winning hand for each of your opponents, making the odds 16:1 against each of them.
The first player has to make a $20 call making the pot $160, this is 8:1 odds and he's only a 16:1 draw, this is a bad call. As each player makes this bad call however, it gets less
bad. The last caller will be calling $20 at a $260 pot, only 13:1 against him.
If everyone had folded when we bet the turn, the correct play, we'd win $140 every hand. However, when they all call, we win only 65% of the time, but the pot goes up to $260. Since
65% of $260 is $169, we win, on average $29 more with the school of fish. We lose more hands, but we win larger pots when we win, and our average winnings have improved.
The result is that although we'd love to win every single hand and would never be upset to see all of our opponents fold, we actually win more money per hand when a school of fish decide to
call.
So don't go on tilt when a fish sucks out, congratulate them on their win and encourage their loose and passive play style.

Understanding Popular Poker Variations
If you haven’t played poker online, it is high time you started. The idea of this card game is to place bets on different combinations of cards into a central pot. This pot is then won by the player who has the best hand. Now this basic game has several variations that you can also play online. A brief description of each is given below:
Texas Hold’em
You’ve seen it played live in casinos and on television where huge tournaments are broadcast. Even online, Texas Hold’em is the most popular version of poker. It requires between two-10 players at a table and has a total of four betting rounds. Two cards are dealt face down to each player while five ‘community’ cards are dealt face up on the table to be shared by all the players. The player who has the best hand wins the pot. It’s a simple game to play with equally simplistic rules and regulations.
Seven Card Stud
This variation of poker is played between two-eight players and each player is dealt three cards face-down. Four community cards are then dealt, all to be shared amongst them and each followed by betting rounds.
Caribbean Stud Poker
The casino or the poker room acts as a bank against which you play and win all or any of your bets.
The Five Card Draw
This is an interesting variation of poker and also the oldest. Five cards are dealt face down to all the players (between two-five) who can then discard their cards and draw up to five more cards after the end of the first round of betting.
Omaha Hi
Omaha Hi is identical to Texas Hold’em except that fours cards are dealt face down to each player in the beginning instead of two. Here too, the player has to make the best hand with two of his
cards and three from the table.
